The city is almost ready for design work. First things first.
I talked a couple of times with park director today (Lisa Clayton). Our first task is to get a handle on what land is available and what the city is expecting.
Meetings are being set up with their overall infrastructure consultant and staff. Also hope to get final instructions from staff arborist on trees. (BTW, looks like there will not be much cutting. Dunno. We can lose some bodocks, but any hardwood or green thing of size gets to stay- more later)
I have walked it several times. I will try to describe the land. Last year my measurements came out with about 15 acres. After getting a better understanding of property lines and watching the develpement of other use areas, I was expecting a bit less in total size. I was told yesterday that it was about 10 acres.
All said, the city is asking for 9 holes. In their wisdom, they are asking for 2 tee areas for each hole - one target. Gonna' be tight.
For the mathamatically inclined:
At 43,560' per acre, a 209' x 209' square. Or a 125' x 348' rectangle. . Tight. With the roads, picnic tables, etc on 3 sides, safety will be a factor. Have I already mentioned tight? Do-able, but with care.
It is mostly on a hillside. Medium size trees and canopy. Grade ranges from strong to very strong. Since it is just one side of the hill -- everything slopes in one direction. Imagine Horton with an attitude.
I need 2 things;
1. We all know that design and installation is a team effort. We designed Crockett with a hardworking team. Worked hard to keep folks in the loop.
That said, if you are inclined to help -- email me. And if you are a FRANKLIN RESIDENT -- email me.
2. Not sure of the story. Don't want to hurt any feelings. But, can someone get word to the folk who have already placed some preliminary hole numbers on the course??? Have them email me.
Oh, BTW, we still aren't through at Crockett. Gonna' be some work days before any upcoming events.
Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to get everyone caught up.
Don't be bashful. The WCDGC needs you.
Thanks,
Ron
