I recently got back to playing after a several year hiatus. I am loving it more than ever. I enjoy this post. Lots of good info. Has anyone looked at the potential of a course at the old country club of franklin. Out by Carnton Mansion. I heard it is no longer a ball golf course. What exists is a large park. I could imagine disc golf fitting right in!!! I have no knowledge of whats involved in getting proposals and such together. but I think it could be a prime location for a good 18 hole course. ;D great work by the way on crockett, to all those involved.

Welcome back rd.
Glad you found WCDGC.
I've heard several rumors about that land. Some say a developer got it. Some say by deed it has to stay "green". Dunno.
I do know this; In working with the city of Franklin in the Liberty course, the director and others on her staff have mentioned that the city has their eyes on several pieces of land for future park developement. She also has said that any and all feasibility work done on these spots have INCLUDED disc golf.
They haven't disclosed any locations yet -- and I am not sure if we should expect them to. At any rate, I will be talking to them this week about Liberty -- so I can sorta' kinda' ask discreetly.
One other reality is the slow down of city revenue this year. I would guess that park land acquisition will continue to be on hold until our "slowdown" speeds up.
Since our relationship with the city is strong, I don't expect any possible DG course to be done without us. We may just have to wait patiently.
This would be good time to mention that while in Tejas last week, I saw 3 new courses that had been royally altered by untrained, inexperienced, uncertified, designers. Only some of it is salvagable. Wasted some good land. The city got in a hurry. Shame.
Hope to meet you soon. If you used to play in the wayback, maybe you can teach me some of the shots I don't yet have.

Ron, Well I have to say I'm sure as active as you and the fellow posters are at playing, there would be no shots I could teach. When I first started playing I played with a small group of friends in high school and a couple years that followed. We played ceders, seven oaks, horton mostly. We never played all that competitively, more for the enjoyment of the outdoors. I then joined the military and honestly forgot about the game. last summer i caught wind that there was a course here at crockett. So me and an old playing buddy drove over. Well I have to be honest. without signs and no knowledge of the course and the fact that it was about 110 degrees outside. we tossed a couple at what i now know is the 18th pin. we walked around a bit, then gave up. Well after stumbling along this page i saw that there were now signs.......That changed everything!!! I now love the game much than ever.....I even carry a bag now. ;D I hope to get into a tourney sometime soon. I consider myself an amateur no doubt. but I still have some muscle memory from those days around high school i guess. I can still give it a decent run (actually shot a 52 at horton yesterday). so thats my story.....and I'm sticking to it!!haha anyway, thanks for the quick reply. I would love to see some more courses around here. but until then we will enjoy the great ones we have. whats the ETA on Liberty?? I would be glad to help with anything you may need. (clean up, digging holes, whatever) by the way a small group of us.......mostly beginners try to play crockett on Mondays and Thursdays at 6:15pm (we don't get off work until 6 hope to see some of y'all out there. rd, Yep. Crockett without signs was a beast. We were careful not to list it on the PDGA website as 'open" until we got some signs in.
Hopefully all the newbies are finding their way. Would be nice to know where they get stuck if that is not the case.
I hope Crockett has been kind to you. From the whites, it can be rather tought. Which tees are you playing?
Liberty is in process. Contractor is on site working on the whole project. Parking, pavilions, restrooms, much much more, ........ and DG is just part of the mix. Hope to see some fairways cut sometime in August. Can't even guess when it will be finished.
Mon and Thur??? I might be able to make one of those. Can old people play with you guys?

Hey Ron, It was nice to meet you Thursday. I think we all had a great time, and not too bad a round either. Thanks for all the tips and info during the game as well. I would like to get some info on the bag tags and becoming a member of the WCDGC. I'll let you know next time we plan to get out there this week. We played sanders ferry and cedar hill back to back Friday. needless to say we had rubber arms afterwords. did well at sanders, love the water holes. cedar killed us. I think all the holes were set in the C and D positions.
