I don't know if anyone caught my post in the Crockett Park thread ... but just in case you missed it, I broke my leg while playing the course last Sunday (two days before Christmas). Broke both bones in my lower leg just above the ankle.
I had just played the first three holes, playing a warm up round with my Rocs and putters. I threw a beautiful Roc shot parking #4 and decided to throw another one for good measure. I guess my foot slipped out from under me in the middle of my X Step sliding toward the front of the tee box. All my weight loaded on my right leg and twisted causing it to break.
I was laying in on the tee at #4 for about 30-45 minutes. Fortunately I had my cell phone in my bag, so I called the family to let them know what happened. I quickly realized that something was broking in my leg, so suggested to them that they call 911 to get an ambulance out to pick me up. The ambulance showed up pretty quickly. They got me on a gurney and hauled me up the hill (lucky it happened so close to the parking lot!).
They took me to Williamson County Hospital. X rays showed my Tibia and Fibula were broken in the fall. Surgery was going to have to be done to piece them together. We considered having the surgery done in TN, but decided it would be better to get back to CO. The flight back was well planned and we flew back with a lot of help and support from Frontier Airlines. They took great care of us and the process of getting home was easy and uneventful.
I went in for surgery at Aspen Valley Hospital yesterday morning at 7:30 a.m. The surgery went well, and I'm back home today recuperating.
I'm really happy that I got to play a couple of rounds on the Crockett course before this happened. It was just an accident, and I'm sure many of you know how slick those tees can be when wet. The course is going to be just amazing once you get some concrete tee pads in (I'm sure this would not have happened if tee pads were in).
I've been playing disc golf for quite some time and have never had anything like this happen, and I've never seen anyone suffer this kind of injury on a disc golf course. So it was pretty unusual, an kind of a fluke I think. Just bad luck that I slipped at just the wrong time in my run up.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know. I'll be out of the casts, etc. and into PT in around 6 weeks. Looking forward to being back in action before the disc golf season kicks in here in CO. I've got a lot of tourneys scheduled this year. It will be my first year playing Pro Grandmasters.
I got a lot of really sweet disc's for Christmas ... can't wait to get back out there and huk them.
I would like to thank the players who helped my Father-in-law find the discs I had thrown on hole #4. You're help is appreciated!
