I've been working on a few POI files for use with your GPS navigation systems. I found a cool site that allows you to easily create groups of database files using the longitude/latitude for different types of GPS outputs. I think you have to register to the site before you can download but well worth it. Go to the link below and I have created 4 different groups: All of TN, KY, GA and Bowling Green. poifriend.com/search.php?q=discAll you have to do is download the zipped file for your GPS unit and extract those files to your GPS into the maps folder. I personally use TOMTOM and it’s really easy. It’ll add all of the courses to a POI category into your GPS and will be awesome for those road trips or when you just can’t find that have to play course!! Enjoy, I spent a lot of time on these and thought I would share. When I get some more really nerdy time, I’m looking at doing one for the entire US. That will take a while.

Oh man this is great. I've been doing the same thing but not as extensively. I've been using google earth to find the gps lat/longs and then dumping that into my garmin and also into my GIS software. This is a good idea for you to maybe approach one of the GPS companies with your national data.

I will have a complied group out there very soon (hopefully today) of the entire US!!!! I was able to develop a script to speed things along tremendously. I will post the link once complete. Neat stuff Jimmy,
I started a discussion on PDGA last year asking about the same kind of stuff. All I got was Chuck Kennedy saying that we already had data in the course links. At least on some of the holes.
I pointed out that the waypoint established by lat/lon was for hole 1 and NOT the stinking parking lot. Caused a problem if you acutally wanted to DRIVE there!!!
I got ignored.
I also didn't know much about the process for nav units. I was still learning about poi's. So, I didn't have the brains to pursue it.
Now, I discover that you do have the brains. I may need a tutorial. I instantly get worried as soon as the guru says "all you have to do...."
I will wait until you get finished and get you on the phone for a walk-thru. This is good stuff.
So there -- Chuck!

Yeah Ron I can help you out. They do have pretty goof instructions under FAQ on the poifriend.com web site. Sorry about the flyer, I had my wife make them but she forgot to bring them home from work and we are in Gatlinburg right now until Sunday afternoon. I will be playing Mills Park and Morningside on the way home!! My number is 418-7599. I'll be willing to help. Once you get that installed on your GPS it will be a godsend!
