So the other day I went over to Liberty to check it out. I saw some baskets and got excited. I walked up the mulch pathway to the first tee, which actually has a basket. Turns out only #1 and #10, the last hole, have baskets. After my self-guided tour, I ran into two park people who were there to do more stuff.
The lady said the park will have its grand opening in the middle of July (she said the 15th, but I think she meant the 18th). Anyway, she also said they were going to announce it in the newspaper and do a little write up on it so keep a look out.

I was there today. Walked the course again. Looking sweet. Parking lot is finished on one end. Tee signs are in. They have some temp navigational signs for now.
Got to talk to Kevin the Assistant Director.
Yes, He has put in a few targets so the mulch crew can visualize the fairways. But, He will be pulling them as soon as they finish each hole. At least until the opening.
Tomorrow and next two weeks there will be a lot of equipment on the hill, so don't plan on checking it out just yet. Still pretty rough in some places.
That said. Nope. It isn't open just yet.
WCDGC will be special guests at the opening, so don't worry about being left out. As soon as the date becomes official, we will tell the world.
Middle of July is the target. Just 2 or 3 more weeks. Going to be a nice addition for the summer. (Crockett is getting pretty dang hot)
They are also installing the alternate pin placements. That's kewl.
Get this. He has ordered 100 discs to give away at the grand opening. Franklin parks likes DG!!
The WCDGC Design Team will be a part of the promo video being shot next week. We think you will like what Ron, Don, Dave, Richard, Scott, Jeff, and John have done with a rather strange piece of land. (if I left anyone out -- shoot me)
Christmas in July.
Thanks, Ron

Ron, its good to hear that Franklin likes DG. We need to make this a great grand opening by the club. show our appritiation ( i cant spell by the way, wheres Dave??) anyway, while looking at the parks website i ran across Winstead Hill park off columbia ave....says it has 61 acres. is that the park next to TSC? it really dont look big from the road......any potential there? and what about a pinkerton/fort granger course...... alright alright.....i know, im just getting ahead of myself......one at a time.

RD, Yes. We need to have a nice turnout. As of last night, he was unwilling to committ to the 18th, just yet. We shall see.
Winstead? Hmmm... pretty sure that is the one behind TS on 31.
As soon as they have the park budget dollars, we will be putting in 2-3 holes in 3 or 4 places. Sort of a neighborhood/get a little practice in on the way home from work/ taste of the real thing kind of set up.
Just about any of the existing city parks that can safely handle a target or 3 will get some. Winstead and Fieldstone will be early on the list. Pinkerton is iffy becaouse of safety.
I am not expecting this to happen this year.
On the positive side --- My understanding from the Director is that any future park land (of size) will most likely have a DG course included in the plan.

I walked around Winstead Hill about 2 yrs. ago. My feeling was that there was not enough room for 18 holes + there is a paved perimeter walking path, that could be a conflict with pedestrians. But: if there is that much acreage in the park then it is quite possible that some area could be used. Yes, it's by TSC. It would be GREAT if some holes went in there since it is close to my house!
I agree with RD that after Liberty gets up & running we should alternate Sunday doubles between there & Crockett to give everybody a chance to beat Ron!!

Played again at lunch today... Quite a few players on the course. It's amazing how clearly the sound of discs hitting trees travels through the woods.
