Course at Fellowship Bible Church

I was wandering around dgcoursereview.com and I saw that there is a 9 hole course at Fellowship Bible Church. No one has reviewed it yet, so I don't know anything about it. What do you guys know about it?

Me and the youth pastor crew designed and installed it just recently. They have had an object course for years, but it is being encroached upon with current and future development.

They wanted a "Putter and Lid" only course. They like their lids (big time Ulty crowd) and only had a small piece of land. I am guessing the Welcome Sign they plan to put on hole one will indicate their desire for players to use putters and lids.

The land is ...... well... uh.... how shall I put this ---- uneventful. Yes, that's it. Flat with only a few trees. But, all in all --- turned out to be fun. Holes are designed to be "spread" holes for the advanced player. In other words, either a 2/3 spread or a 3/4 spread.

Newbies will be most pleased with a 3 on the shorter holes, but will find some 4's in there. I only played it twice since the targets went in. Shot 24 both times. I hear the course record is 23. Dunno.

My favorite holes are 1, 3, 4, 8, and 2 in that order. I think carpet pads and some more signs are on the way. Until then, it is most difficult to know where the tee areas are. It isn't a secret, they just got exiceted and put it on the websites before they got the signs in.

Holler and we will go play it. Everybody I know needs to improve their putter game. Here is a fun way to do it.

Oh, and remember. This is in a grass field. No smoking. Not straight, not crooked.

I've been waiting for these fine fellas to put in some kind of tee markers, but it ain't happening.

So....
I made my own. Two painted, treated posts for each hole. With hole number and length. Made a post for "welcome / rules" sign, too.

I will be at the course tomorrow (Thursday) at noon to adjust the tee placements and maybe start on the install. I have borrowed a power auger. Easy breezy.

If you can join me then, that would be most nice.

And I will be back at 6pm to finish the install. Once again, you are welcome to join me.

I am working on tweaking the pastor's original design. Most of the holes were boring 3's. (you get a 3 if you shoot well or not so well)

I am looking to make 5 of them reachable for the bird and 4 of them long enough for a possible bogey. Since this is designed to be a putter/lid course there will be a wide range of what "reachable" means. Come help and provide some data (which means we get to play some, too!!

6Got tee markers halfway done. Barely in the ground. Auger took the day off. Expect tofinish next week.
Still got 2 holes to shorten __ 4&7. The rest are goood to go. Need to trim a few limbs.

Brentwood. Southeast corner of Concord Rd/Franklin Rd

Enter the driveway at the light BETWEEN Bwood Baptist and Fellowship. Course is on your right. Park in first lot on the right -- it is nowhere near any building. Hole one has a 5' marker pole.

I got more tweaking. Some parts are still too long for a rec putter/lid course.

I am ready to do a slight re-design. The original youth pastors that put it in are gone -- and they wanted a lid/putter course. That shall change.

There is enough room (and safe enough) for us to adjust some tee placements and lengths. I will not be able to move any targets, but the tees are gonna' change.

How about breakfast at SteaknShake at 9am. And meet at the course at 9:30 am??

I'm canoeing with the Beckerlings this Saturday, but if we wanted a change of pace from the weekly Crockett event some Sunday, we could play two rounds at the nearby niner.

So I've been thinking . . . (uh oh)

First thought is of course 'how can the pond be brought into play?' I really love hole 1 and would hate to lose it. But it turns out to be frustratingly difficult to make changes that bring the pond into play, and keep hole 1 the way it is, and still have some sort of flow to the course.

here's one possible way? . . .

1. unchanged
2. unchanged
3. normal tee spot general area to current #4 basket - par 4? maybe worrisome about the house though on shot #2?
4. move tee back in the trees more to force an 'S' - hyzer off the tee, anny approach
5. straight downhill to current #3
6. water shot! ;D par 4 Have the tee so that it is about 230 to the water and about 300 to the far edge. Big arms can go for it, the rest of us have to make just the right layup . . . too far and it's in the drink, not far enough and there may still be trouble getting across on shot #2. Throwing to current #9 basket
7. to #7 basket from the opposite direction. long downhill. fun!
8. short uphill around tree
9. same as current #8 but longer. (just so the tee is somewhat near #8's basket. Like Liberty #10, this is filler to get back to the lot. Boo. Best I could I come up with.)

I typed a really nice response last night and failed to send it.

Yes, the basket re-order LookAtGoogleEarth was on my to-do list, but, I like what I see.

Thoughts.
The shot near the house may or may not be too close. The shot over the water may or may not be in a swampy area. Existing 3 target is in an unhappy place; too awkward to travel back and forth across a wide creek without bridges. (and in a bad place with the suggested target mixup) Might want to dig that one up and move. Dunno.

One or 2 par 4's was the plan, but for this approach to work --- several other holes get stretched also. Got me to thinking that Keith was right yesterday; what about a seconcd set of shorter tees? Newbie friendly, better balance.

Time to measure and walk.

I dropped some stakes and flags using Cameron's renumbering plan. Looks very do-able. Red/white looks worth the while, too. I also added a number 10 (liberty-esqe). Throwing back to the parking lot to target 6 (original 9)

Target 3 has got to be moved. see drawing. We will also need to drop in some stepping stones in a place or 3 (blue boxes) and maybe a couple of 8' bridges. More for the swamp than the creek.

I have mixed feelings about OB for the creek. Landing in it has more to do with getting knocked down by a tree, than a poorly placed shot. But, the pond and tallgrass/cattails around it need to be OB

It currently looks lefty friendly. That may continue to be the case. We need to create a balance of length, too. Out of 10 holes on whites, how many 600' par 4's? Tweeners (350-450)? reachables (290-330)? Possible to overthrow's (<290)?

The water shot is cool. It is more of a cattail shot, tho. Quite tall. I set it up for a straight on, over the corner shot. Takes about 230' to clear the tails on the far side Remember that they are tall. If a righty hyzers off --- the distance is at an angle and gets longer. Cool. The swampy section where it connects to creek needs a bridge/elevated walkway.

I am a bit worried about the white tee behind the house. I needs to be a par 4, so I stretched it to near 600. Yes the house comes into play on the second shot, but not much. Red tee needs a very safe angle and distance. I don't see a par 4 from the red tee (even for a rec rated player)
