Hello Everyone. My name is Michael Myrick. I just moved to the area with my better half and our young daughter about a week ago. I am over in McKay's Mill close to Liberty and a short trip from Crockett. I'd like to join the club soon to get involved in my new hometown's disc golf scene, so I'll be looking for you guys to do so and get to know some of the faces (and I hope to talk some of my collegiate fraternity brothers from Brentwood that play casually into joining as well to get them more involved in the sport because they love it).
I began playing disc golf in the 1999-2000 school year while in Oxford, MS. If any of you had played any local, SNDG, or PDGA tourneys in North Mississippi (or possibly Memphis, Central MS, or Southern MS pre-Katrina) from 2000-2006, we've probably met. I was VP and club pro champion of the Spring Creek Disc Golf Club in Holly Springs, MS close to where I was at the time: Ole Miss. I began playing Pro in SNDG and PDGA in 2002, and helped design or expand many of North to Central Mississippi's courses built between 2002 and 2006, with my fellow "more-involved" golfers, (which probably totals about 5 or so courses) for Mississippi's state parks or various city parks. I've had the privilege of going toe-to-toe with some really great players in that time from Barry Schultz, to Orum to several great pro players from all over the Southeastern United States - Nashville included of course, and especially Memphis. In 2005, I earned the honor of the Mississippi Representative at the United States Disc Golf Championship @ Winthrop; competing against all the greats in America, Japan, various European countries and so on. I'd continued to do the club-pro gig at several of the North MS state parks, doing little clinics or helping new players or even helping out in pro shops until I'd graduated from OleMiss in '06.
...At that time, well... you know how life is... ya' move back, get a job, get too busy, etc... and I slowly fell off the scene. At the time, I'd gone back to Jackson, MS where Doug Williams and I became the only two pros in town. He left the sport for the time, which left me solo and gas was running around $3.50 to $4.00/gallon... so I didn't tour any at that time... last few years, with the birth of my daughter, I been really busy and haven't competed in any tournaments. She's getting a little older and more interactive and independent now, and with our beautiful hometown, I hope to get on the scene again (and knock some of the dust off my game). I hope to get to know all of you well and be a part of something enjoyable with great fellowship on the disc golf course(s) and maybe hit-up some tournaments with you guys. Let me know if there's anything I can do for/with the club.
I'd requested to join the Facebook group, so I hope you guys will approve that soon to help stay in the loops more easily, assuming updates are posted there regularly as well.
