This year's Crazy 8 will be June 8, 2013. Tentative order of play is
7O, 2R, CH, SF, LP, CP, SS, BC
Tee off at 6:00 am. This gets us through Seven Oaks before it gets busy, and lets us finish on a couple of fairly open courses that shouldn't be too dark.
A few of us tested out Fontanel and voted 3-0 not to play it on the Crazy 8. It would take too long and it would kill the legs.

Counting me, that's five already!
Would anybody object to starting at 6:00 am instead of 6:30?
After Sander's Ferry, we have a few options:
LP, CP, SS, BC
3C, CL, SS, CP
CL, SS, LP, CP
Four considerations:
1. How long it would take to drive the circuit.
2. How long it would take to play the various courses.
3. Whether the courses have hilly, leg-killing terrain.
4. Which course is open and fairly light in the gloaming.
We can discuss this as we play the first four courses.

Would anybody object to starting at 6:00 am instead of 6:30? I would not object at all . . . would much rather get up early than have it get dark on us at the end of the day Cameron

I concur. Early's not a problem.
As for courses, I've not played TripleCreek since the last time we hit it on the 8s, but as usual, my stipulation for playing there is that the back nine was mowed sometime within the month. Sending people out to mark every drive is ridiculous.
Otherwise, it looks like the difference is whether we play Barfield or Lebanon; I'm happy with either.
No Grant this year?

Just throwing this out there for future reference Dave. If you ever want to include the Wilson county loop in your crazy 8 (Cedars of Lebanon, Shire, Mundy), I can show you a quick 18 hole layout at the Shire that trims the 24 holes down to just 18 and cuts out the redundant walks. Just keep it in mind for next time.

I have modified the start time--it's now 6:00 am.
It looks like we will have a Grant.

8 is the magic number. 3 is still par, so that counts for something.
Though not everyone has posted here, my regular harassment has led me to believe we'll have eight arms battling for supremacy:
David Richard Grant Jim Cameron James Bryan Miles
Bryan played 6 courses over 3 days to train. I’ve spent my lunch hours on the treadmill. Hopefully the placement of 2R early in the day will help elude any heat/exhaustion issues this year.
Dunno if the final decision was made as to course #8. Of the three options, I'm most familiar with Barfield. The uphill trek from 16's basket to 17's tee seems an appropriate murderous finish to the day.
I would rather NOT drive, but I'll chip in gas money. Dunno if Richard is still helming the minivan. Any volunteers for vechicles?
Dave, can you provide a list of what we should bring? We can probably give a rundown on ready-golf, play fast, etc. when we get to 7Oaks.
6:00. Seven Oaks. Crazy 8s. It's almost poetic. It's certainly stupid.
(Now I need to find my shirt.)

Confirmed. I am planning to play. Agree with finishing at BC. If we're fighting twilight we might think about starting on 12 and finishing up with the open holes. Just a thought. I can drive if needed.

Grant may bring a friend, so that would be 9--probably three groups of three.
I played Barfield Crescent last Sunday, and it is indeed a good place to finish in the gloaming. Starting two groups on 10 and 12 would be good.
Warning! There is now a pond the full width of the fairway just short of the basket on #3. The best strategy for most of us will be a 250' drive and an up shot.
Richard and I have found that the best bet for us old folks is to drink a 20 oz bottle of Gatorade during each round, and eat a piece of fruit between rounds. This maintains our electric lights. We can go through a drive-thru after SF, but we need to keep moving.
We usually bring several pairs of dry socks, a few pairs of shoes (the first ones get wet in the early morning), a couple of T-shirts, and maybe even some extra shorts. Bug spray, sunscreen, hat, soap (for poison ivy), and golf towels.
Bring a disc to throw over the water at SF, SS, and BC.
Ready golf is the key. Pick up, throw, keep walking. We try to play each course in an hour or less.

I did some research on the drive time for the options:
7O, 2R, CH, SF, LP, CP, SS, BC = 177 minutes of driving.
7O, 2R, CH, SF, 3C, CL, SS, CP = 191 minutes of driving.
The former is a little less driving (only 14 minutes). Playing red and white simultaneously at CP might save some time, but last time I was there it was overgrown, which might slow us down if we lose a few discs.
The latter ends closer to home. It includes Triple Creek (Gallatin) and Cedars of Lebanon, which some of you might not be familiar with. 3C takes a long time to play and the back nine is out in the hot sun, but CL is fairly short--although it's sometimes hard to follow.
Let me know if you have a preference. We can also talk about it when we get to Sanders Ferry.

Benefits of Liberty and Barfield - more ace runs, more familiarity. Barfield is well kept and easy enough to finish at twilight. Drawbacks - Liberty is rough on the legs, even at 10 holes. And if it's overgrown, it's going to be even harder to find dual drives.
Benefits of Cedars of Lebanon and Triple Creek - Novelty. I've played each less than 10 times. Drawbacks - The back 9 on Triple Creek needs to be mowed. If not, it's a nightmare to play. Also, does Lebanon have all 18 baskets set up? Last time, there were 17. Also, we'd need to separate those familiar with those courses so we know where the next tee is.
I'm happy with either, but if it's a mere 14-minute difference, I'll vote for the rare courses (3C and CL).
