Ron and I have been talking about hosting an Ice Bowl at Crockett Park during January or February. I am starting this thread to open up the discussion. Give us your thoughts. Here are a list of possible dates (I have excluded dates in which other clubs within a few hours of here are already hosting an event):
January 12th February 2nd February 9th February 23rd
If we are going to do this, we need to pick a date and register ASAP.

I'm in for sure, and I don't care what day.

I'm in whenever! I think Hendersonville is having their ICE BOWL on Jan 26th, so keep that in mind.

I'm in whenever! I think Hendersonville is having their ICE BOWL on Jan 26th, so keep that in mind. That is correct. I only chose dates that do not conflict with any other "local" events (I consider this to be anywhere within a couple hours drive. Therefore, I also ruled out the conflicting dates with Jackson, Cookeville, Athens, etc.).

Athens is 90 minutes away and our Ice Bowl is 2/23/08.

Athens is 90 minutes away and our Ice Bowl is 2/23/08. Sorry about that Bill. I thought I had skipped the date of your tournament. Actually, according to the Ice Bowl website, your "Lion's Club Charity Classic" is listed on the 16th. I played in this tournament last year and I really enjoyed myself (well, except for the 40 mph winds). So, which date is accurate?

Hey guys, (and ladies) Working on getting final approval from the city parks for this tournament. Since this is our first, we really need them to buy in before we move forward.
The date looks good, if we can nail it down before any other burgs get it first.
We can sanction this with PDGA, too. With the endowment program, we can get all the benifits of a sanctioned tournament (points, ratings, insurance, etc) and have most of the fees waived, and even the non-member fee is waived. That way PDGA can support the charity, too.
Charity being selected. More later.
Sadly enuff, I still have Certified Official status, so you are stuck with me as TD. cough cough stepup cough cough.
Later, Ron

Ice Bowl Update
On the personal side; I talked to Addie and Karolyn at the P, D, and G A and they said my darling little CO status is current and incorrectly omitted from the website list. Dang. Pulled this former TD out of retirement.
It is also MOST do-able for us to apply for sanctioning under the endowment program. We are a simple request away from making it happen.
For the un-informed --- PDGA santioning brings with it an insurance option which the city will require. It also brings with it an sense of respectability which the city can and should expect.
Now back to the show
The details to obtain city approval for our first tournament are in the works. More by Tuesday. Almost there.
Thanks,
Ron

Have you selected a date?

According to my notes 1-12 Bud Hill 1-19 Mboro 1-26 Hendersonville
2-9 Chattanooga 2-10 Hartselle 2-16 Jackson 2-17 Florence 2-23 Athens
No action out of Cookville that I can tell.
Assuming 1-12 is a bit too close, that leaves Saturday dates of 2-2 or 2-9 with Chatt town, not a real concern about hurt feelings.
Ammendments??

Park Board Report
Met tonight to dialogue about how to package DG tournaments.
We don't fall in the typical category of the large weekly team/league sports or in the special category of walkathons, etc. So they didn't have an immediate answer of what to do with us.
The board seemed supportive of our desire to hold 2 or 3 one-day events, just didn't have a place in the existing guidlines to plug us in.
Officially our plight was tabled, with instructions to work something out with park director and staff. Both staff and club members in attendence seemed ok with that.
All in all I was pleased that we have an avenue to travel that should get us in a position to do some events. Nothing negative at all. Just need to find a way for them to include our sport in their guidelines.
Thanks, Ron

Anything new come of this? I would really like to play a Ice Bowl at Crockett! I think it would be really fun and a great introduction to the course.
