I've been in Bowling Green for a week of training, and whie here I managed to hit a few of the local courses.
Monday: Kereiakes
I enjoyed this course. I feel like they have used the available land very well, though it is small - Liberty-like in some ways, though without the total overhead canopy we enjoy in Franklin. A great place to practice throwing a) straight and b) low. On the downside, mosquitoes were at threat level Sharp Springs, if you know what I mean.
I shot 5 or 6 down here, I think -- I had 7 birdies if memory serves and only 1 or 2 4s (I kinda lost track at the turn, but I was throwing well.) Played the last two with a group of locals -- younger guys -- and they were very cool and welcoming.
Lots of interesting shots to make here -- if I were playing Friday (I was planning to, but won't due to the heat) this is the course I would return to.
Tuesday: Hobson Grove
I ran into the same group of guys as Monday (how weird is that?) and we played doubles. I didn't contribute much -- I would have to play this one multiple times to figure out the lines. I found it very tight and difficult. Also, about half(?) of the holes (at least to my memory, perhaps selective) require a late-breaking left to right shot. Great for a RHFH, not so much for me. If this was my home course I would definately work on a flick. Partner and I ended even par; I contributed little to our day.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, I took a nap. And it was good.
Thursday: Lover's Lane
Oh, the heat! I questioned whether I should go out at all, but I hit the course at about 6:45 when the temp had dropped to 99 and played until almost sundown. The course was well-maintained but not as interesting as the other two. I'm not a course designer by any means, but it seems as though they could have used the available land differently to create some more interesting shots. It seems like they've wasted some of the available space with longish walks from baskets to the next pads. I shot 1 down with birdies on 8, 11, and 12 and 4s on 6 (bad shots) and 14 or 15 (the 500 footer) because I flubbed the up-shot.
Overall, I enjoyed seeing these courses. They're definately close enough for a road trip if you were making a day of it and hitting two or three.
