Crazy Golfers,
The 8th annual Crazy 9 -- no wait, I mean the 9th annual Crazy 8 -- will be Saturday, June 13, 2009.
This is a casual tournament where we will play 8 different courses in one day. We'll start at Crockett at 6:30 am and play:
Crockett Park Seven Oaks Two Rivers Cedar Hill Sanders Ferry Cedars of Lebanon Sharp Springs Barfield Crescent
Meet at Crockett at 6:15 am. First 15 get a free T-shirt. Last year three people finished, with an average score of about 59.5. We get done at about 8:00 at Barfield.
Contact Dave or Richard for more information.
Dave the editer: eight three two, oh four seven nine, evenings.

I fearfully look forward to doing eight in a day. Pen me in! Can I chip in a couple bucks toward gas money and save myself a little driving time by hitching a ride with another fool?
(With the way the weather's been this year, should someone reserve a rain date?)

What about playing Triple Creek? That would save on most of us having to end the day all the way in Murfreesboro.

Hey guys, I am interested in playing. I just can't commit just yet. I go to college in Ohio but I live in Thompson's Station, so I should be in the area sometime soon. I am looking to playing a lot of disc golf this summer while I am in the area.

Ambroze,
We'll take a vote whether to play Triple Creek or Barfield Crescent. Some of us don't like Triple Creek, but you're right it would save a lot of driving.
By the way, if the gate isn't open at 6:15 at Crockett Park, park your car in the Catholic Church parking lot, and we'll start on #14.
We might play the reds at Crockett. The day is long enough without having to throw 800 feet on one hole.

I've only played TripleCreek once and the grass was about two feet high. If there's a way to find out whether the course has been reasonably groomed, that influences my vote. I'd rather spend the extra 30 minutes in a car than getting aggravated looking for discs in the "fairway."

Dunno if anyone has had a chance to check TripleCreek, but one humble suggestion would be to drop Two Rivers (a toll on arms and legs) and play both TripleCreek and Barfield to make the eight. It'd be a bit more driving, but I'd happily play those two courses over Two Rivers. (Then again, if Gallatin is a wilderness, ignore this post.)
How many crazies have committed?

Only four discgolfers have committed so far, but all discgolfers should be committed.
Dave the editer, Richard, Grant, and Becker are probables. Ron, Ambroze, and Eagle44 are possibles.
Hints: Bring a change of shoes and a couple of changes of socks, as well as a couple of shirts. In the past we found the best way to stay alive is to drink a 24-ounce Gatorade during each round, and eat a piece of fruit between rounds.

So, How did it go?

Four of us started out at 6:31 am at Crockett and finished at 8:00 pm sharp at Sharp Springs. Becker, Richard, Grant, and the editer completed eight courses: Crockett, 7O, 2R, CH, SF, 3C, CL, SS. My legs held up, but my arm turned to rubber. With Becker it was the other way around--he was still throwing 350 at the end, but walking funny.
We're not going to invite Becker next year--it's not fair to the rest of us. He was 9 over on the DAY, despite blowing up at Triple Creek with 8 over (Grant beat him by a stroke on that course). Richard started slow but forgot to blow up on any of the courses. Your faithful editer was in last place coming in to Sharp Springs (having blown up on two courses), but Grant was kind enough to blow up and save the editer from embarrassment.
Becker shot 441, for an average of 55.1 Richard shot 470, for an average of 58.8 Dave shot 479, for an average of 59.9 Grant shot 483, for an average of 60.4
Reluctantly Respectfully submitted, Dave the editer

I recalculated all the scores and found two mistakes, one to Becker's favor and one to my favor. So Becker averaged exactly one over. Here is the recap:
June 13, 2009. Conditions: mid to upper 80’s, light breeze. Started at Crockett at 6:31, ended 8:00 at SS.
Results: Jim Becker took first at 7 courses, Grant won at 3C. Richard tied for first at 2R. Dave never even had second alone. We had 26 star pars, two star bogies, and two star doubles (#2 & #15 at CH). Grant lost two discs. Only three courses were played in under an hour (7O, 2R, & CL). Average time was 1:08.

The thing is, their scores are posted while being somewhat hurried all day. I would miss so many putts if you didn't let me go through my 20 second routine each time. Averaging a 60 is not too shabby. I know you guys were booking cause I saw how quick you blew through 2 rivers, and man that course is not one you want to double time it on.
