Three of us from Athens, AL played today. I had played the back 9 in August, the other two had never been there.
We all thought it was one of the best courses we have played.
I was really impressed with how much work had been done the last 5 months.
We are ready to come up for a tournament.

Kind words Bill. On behalf of the team -- thanks.
We've seen how much improvement can be made in 5 years by watching the Sportsplex course. We hope to be able to follow the same path. And speaking of hope -- We hope to continue to convert watchers to workers. Gonna' need it to survive. Gonna' need it when tee pads hit the agenda.
Hey to the CPF!

My buddy and I also played for the time on Saturday the 19th. We played the first 9 holes from the white tees, and the brown tees for the last 9. We goofed up on the 12th tee. And replayed it after we found the basket, what a looonnnggg hole. Do you guys go over the trees when the basket is in its fartherest location? We had a blast and look forward to coming back. We are newbies, and have only been playing for a month, but are addicted now. Very nice facility, nice work.

Hey bb, Glad you found us. Sorry about getting lost. We are still in the "play at your own risk of getting lost " stage. The tee sign order should hit the sign shop in a few days. The temporary target numbers were sent to an early grave my our local vandals. A more permanant version is being put together as we speak.
#12. Right now it is set at 710'. A genuine par 4 from the white tees. If you can bomb one over the top (about 275' to the meadow + whatever it takes to clear the trees) then you can get up and down in 3. Birdie golf. Humans go around the bend and are happy with a 4.
Thanks, Ron

I absolutely love #12 in the long position. I got a little confused during my first round too ... but on the second round, I totally went for it over the trees. I had a very good chance to birdie, but missed the dang putt! IF I hadn't broken my freaking leg ... I would have spent some time on that hole later. I think it's one of those holes, that with some practice and throwing several times to see "where" you need to land the disc ... Is totally reasonable. Wish I would have been able to play ALL WEEK! ARG! BTW, I love the whole course. I think it's going to be one of the best in the area.
Question: Are you going to plant some trees or something around hole #1? It's OK as a straight open shot, but would be really cool with some trees around it ... Like hole #3. There are so many things I like about this course ... I could go on-and-on.

Just an idea ... but if you put trees on hole #1, put them on the RIGHT side! Making this an anhyser shot would be really challenging.

John, I love it when great minds think alike. Trees are certainly in our future.
The city has some number of trees almost each year. We just have to get on their to-do list and annual budget. Not been a problem in the past.
Look first for some shade for the open tee pads , then some protector trees for the tee areas close to target areas, and then our next run of trees will be some fairway design trees.
Current favorites are 1,2, 11/18, and 12/13. May take some time, but all very do-able.
Keep us posted on your next trip south.
Ron
BTW, I too--- went over the top on 12. Easy up shot for a sweet 3.
Then my wife punched me and said to quit mumbling and quit snoring.

Here's a vote for no trees on the first hole. It's always nice to have the first hole be a good warm up hole. And it gives new players a boost of confidence and enthusiasm when the first hole is ..... "forgiving".

Ron, I think I would qualify as a human. I tried to go over the trees this past Saturday, but came up a little short. Had a great time again. I mentioned to one of the cashiers at the BP (I think) that they may want to consider carrying some disc's. Hope to meet some of you guys out on the course soon.

Who can turn down a "pretty please"? Concept-wise I also vote with scotch. Needs to be a forgiving hole. The ONLY way I can think of to add trees to #1 and honor that concept is to run a row of trees on a line directly between the target and tee. maybe sorta halfway out. 3 or 4 trees. Maybe between 150 and 200' out. Both alleys are still open. Not sure how I feel about forcing a left to right shot only. Would increase disc traffic on the sidewalk. Besides, if we get x number of trees per year, there are some other places that would need trees more than 1. We might be old and cripple by then. Ron

No worries ... I'll take a birdie opp every time! PS. Did you guys hear I won a custom Holsten basket from the 20th Real Ice Bowl raffel in Wisconsin? Never pass up an opportunity to enter a raffle for such a cool prize! Free shipping too. I might just set it up in my home office so I can practice putting with my mini until the leg is back in shape. I won the Double Decker: unclejoes.org/bcbasks2.htmltholsten.com/doubledecker.html

Ron... & co-crocket workers. Just want to say thanks for all your hard work. What a great course for such a fun sport! Anyone know of support groups for disc golf addicts?
Where's a good site to read up on the sport and watch some technique videos?
Here's to warmer weather! Paul
