Question. This being my first ever tournament to sign up for and having no intent on joining the pdga anytime in the next year....should I register as novice or rec??
Oh, and it's so great that you would plan a tournament the day after my birthday on the course where I learned to play this sport!!

Scott, The descriptions for divisions for a PDGA tournament are meant to describe a level of play, and that may or may not match your history with playing a tournament.
In other words, one can be an Advanced level player ----- and have never yet played a sanctioned event.
So, you and many others without much tournament experience will be looking to choose the correct division. Give us a day or two and I will try to put together some possible scoring numbers that might help you choose.
We will try to give folks a scoring range for each am division.
Ron

I agree - a scoring range for each am division will be very helpful to us tournament newbies. I know there are at least a few of us holding off on registering until we can get a good feel for which division we should be in. Thanks!

I got the first draft of the temp 8. But, I don't expect you would be able to connect the dots. The paint and flags are dotted all around the playground and the approach road. All but 2 have Pro/am tees. I expect a bit of adjusting will come. That is the nature of first drafts. I really like 5 of them. The other 3 have decent quality, but not very memorable. The pro tees have..... Got a really nice 540' er. A great 350', slightly downhill and a challenging up shot, although I expect about 15% birds. A nice, slightly uphill, 300' with a bit of OB. Nice challenge, I expect 2's, 3's, 4's and 5's on it. An island green. A semi-goofy/ finesse shot. Needs a good overhand to pull it off. A hanging basket/ace run. Hard not to go for it. Expect an announcement on Monday. A combination Volunteer Work Day/ Play the Tourney 18 DAY. Ron

I have the same question as Scott. I have no idea what division to register for. I have never made par from the reds, is that Novice?

Ok, here are some suggestions for choosing your correct division.
What do you normally shoot? Think of a typical round. Throw out your best and worst.
We don't have many numbers from Liberty, and what we do have is a red/white combo. Not much mathematical use.
Remember. At this Ice Bowl at Liberty, Intermediate and up will play from all white tees, both rounds. Rec and Nov will play all red tees both rounds.
What do you normally shoot at ....... Sharpe Springs in a sort of original set up. 55/56 ish to 59/60ish is Intermediate 60/61ish to 65/66ish is Recreational 62ish + is Novice
What do you normally shoot at ....... Crockett White tees in sort of the set up it is now. 59/60ish to 62/63ish is Intermediate.
or Crockett Red tees in sort of the set up it is now. 54/55ish to 59/60ish is Rec 60ish + is Novice
For any course --- if you move a target or 3 --- you can easily alter the expected score by 2/3 strokes. These numbers depend wholly on the target set-up.
For the un-initiated newbies, the PDGA rating system defines this way: Intermediate 900-934 Recreational 850-899 Novice < 849
Does that help?
Ron
BTW, I pulled these numbers from some recent tournaments (not out of my....... hat) If you have better numbers, I will abnegate.
