Sorry I missed whatever was played this morning. Is there a consensus for tomorrow and/or Monday? Not sure I can do either, but better to know than to show alone.

Woody spoke of heading back to Liberty again sometime soon; didn't know the condition, as I don't get out there without a clear green light. If the course is playable, let's get it back in the rotation. If not, Crockett tomorrow. Opinions?

I won't be in town this weekend, but I walked Liberty last week. The city has not completed their planned re-work of the overgrown areas ---in fact, they have hardly started. 1 and 2 are still rather nasty; 8,9,10 are still semi-nasty, 3 is ruff on the left. Maybe we could play 4,5,6,7 about 5 times in a row?? Has anybody else seen it? Ron

Ron - Saw you and Ryan were at Liberty the other night. Second verse, same as the first?

Ron - Saw you and Ryan were at Liberty the other night. Second verse, same as the first? Ummm... Well I hate to say it, but Liberty is a mess. The plan put together by the park folk was to spraykill several areas and then spray them again, and then mulch them. The day of our meeting they sprayed about 1/3 of the areas noted. If they have been back --- they covered their tracks well. I think if I played in a group of seasoned adult players that carefully watch every shot, then Liberty at this point in the season would be fine. But, with younger players, kiddos, etc it is a great place to loose a disc. I hate to think we have to wait until the first frost to put Liberty back in the Sunday doubles rotation, but for now, that would be my suggestion. Ron

Ron put me in charge of which holes we'll play for this fifth Sunday singles round. Apparently he has enough faith in me that I won't custom-tailor it to my strengths. I really wanted to put together a safari round, but (1) RD does it better than anyone else, (b) I'm hoping RD puts together the standard fall safari round before his wife pops; that should give us another possible tag exchange, and (iii) Sunday afternoons can get crowded, where safari isn't optimal. I thought about going funky and putting Sunday's singles round at Fellowship, but opted otherwise. Same goes for braving the jungle round that would be Liberty.
So, for Crockett, I tried to select a course layout where there were a variety of birdies available. I also wanted to include holes with swing, where a bad shot requires some serious salvaging or settling for bogeys.
1 WHITE – the early trees come into play. They shouldn’t, but they do. Distance-wise, there’s still a birdie available for heavy-heavers. 2 RED – White requires an upshot but the left treeline comes into play from either tee. 3 WHITE – Escape the gap or pay the price. Also, my boys prefer the tunnel. 4 WHITE – Both OB and the tree come into play. Or play it safe and you’re looking at a long upshot over the crest. 5 WHITE - Another easy 4 or 5 if you don’t get past the red tee’s canopy. 6 RED – Get the birdies when they’re available. 7 RED – Get the birdies when they’re available. 8 RED – Probably the best ace run out here. 9 WHITE – Ron talked me into it. Stay in bounds for an easy 4. Go OB for an easy 5. 10 RED - Get the birdies where they’re available. 11 RED – Personally, I think the whites are easier to get around the pole. Red puts the mess on the right more into play. 12 RED – Meh. Wish it was in the long basket. 13 ALT/RED - Get the birdies where they’re available. 14 RED – I lied. This is the easiest ace run. Proof: I've witnessed two here in the last six months. 15 WHITE – What sign in the middle of the fairway? 16 WHITE – Now that they’ve cleared the gap, it’s a fun challenge. 17 WHITE – Gonna make you work. A 3 should gain ground on the field. 18 WHITE – Want to get to the basket? Better void the forest on the right.
That comes out to an even split of reds and whites. It's as "fair" as I can make it without integrating a handicap. And hey, the #1 tag is up for grabs.
I’ll print out a dozen or so of these hole layouts so we’ll have enough for each group.
See you Sunday at 2:00.
-- Jim

Shu and Scooter didn't get to play yesterday. They want to play today. So we'll be getting wet at Liberty. Feel free to join. If you happen to catch this and are also foolish like us, give a call to let us know to look for other umbrellas.
